How does a CHAMELEON change its colour??

Origin of "OK" and its Gesture!!

OK , I'm sure you use this word several times a day at several places. But this word has no place in official documents and formal reports. When I searched for OK in my dictionary, its printed that OK is used as an expression of Approval and Satisfaction but along with the definition I also found "INFORMAL" in Brackets.

No one knows how this 2-alphabet word got popularised and even we don't know the expansion of OK. It is said that OK was used with a so called "OK" Gesture.

The Transit took place in 2004 and after 8 years its happening again now ( June 2012). We can't see this TRANSIT again because we have to wait for another 105 years for another PAIR of TRANSITS with 8 years of gap between them. Then the pattern repeats (121 ½ , 8, 105 ½ , 8).

Why are Hill Stations COOLER??

Small kids often ask this question when they visit a HILL STATION. Why is it Cool here? We are closer to the SUN now?? This question may sound stupid but we struggle to answer it.

The drop in temperature at Hill Stations and Mountains is because of the change in ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE. There is a relation between PRESSURE and TEMPERATURE. Both Pressure and Temperature vary proportionally. This is what THERMODYNAMICS says. But I hate equations and formulas. Let's have a practical explanation and good understanding of this FACT

The Image what comes to my mind on hearing the word "ICEBERG" is TITANIC. A huge ICEBERG floating on the ATLANTIC made HISTORY. As we know, an ICEBERG is a piece of ICE broken from a GLACIER. One important thing is that ICEBERGS are made of FRESH WATER. They are heavy enough to submerge 89 % of their body, which means only 11 % is seen above the Water level.

Sea Shells found on the Sea shores are hard covers protecting the Soft backbone less SEA ANIMAL present inside. These shells get washed up and are found on the BEACH, after the animal present inside dies. Shells have been used for various purposes. Sea shells were even used as CURRENCY in many ISLANDS.

These Empty Sea Shells produce some sound which you hear when you hold it near to your EARS. People were confused about from where this SOUND came.

On seeing this word I thought it was the name of the company which made the CLOCK but I was confused to see this "QUARTZ" written on many watches of different companies.

You should have seen someone throwing match sticks inside the Petrol/Diesel tank of Vehicles or some huge tanks in many movies after which an EXPLOSION takes place. Will this action of just dropping a small match stick explode the whole tank??

An Interesting fact is, the chances of explosion is less when the tank is completely filled with fuel and there are MORE chances of a BLAST if the FUEL present in the tank is LESS.In brief, the chances for the tank to explode depends upon the quantity of fuel (COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL) present and the SIZE of the TANK.

We all use the word Xerox frequently to refer to duplicate copies of a document.But is it right to use the word XEROX?? Does this word belong to English Language?? Though most of the dictionaries have the word XEROX listed in them as a verb, its actually not verb. XEROX is not a word, its a NAME. Xerox is the name of the company which Manufactured the first PHOTOCOPYING machine. There are so many machines produced by the company, but can all of them be called xerox machine? Definitely not.

You would have surely used a candle many times at many places for different purposes but have you seen a MAGIC CANDLE.If yes, you would have wondered how did it ignite even after blowing it off?. Have you?

Have you ever wondered why is an echo not produced in a Cinema Theatre with huge speakers making loud sounds but a low noise in an empty room echoes?? Well u have the answer right here in a simple manner. An echo is formed as a result of reflection of the original sound which returns to the listener. You might have experienced Echo in an EMPTY ROOM but no echo is produced after the room is occupied. To avoid echo from being produced the echo has to be absorbed. Echo in a cinema theatre is absorbed by the WALLS of the theatre. So next time when you go for watching a movie, notice the WALLS of the Theatre. They are not plain. The walls are corrugated or shaped to form tiny holes or empty spaces to ABSORB the ECHO. Modern Theatre's have ABSORBENT materials sticked to the walls of the theatre.

This is why you dont hear an echo in a theatre with speakers shouting loud music.Echo cant be avoided but it can be absorbed effectively so that it cant be heard
