How does an AEROPLANE gets LIFTED??

The magic behind the lifting of an Air-plane is simple. Its impossible for an Aeroplane to lift in the absence of AIR. Any object needs something to get upon. Aeroplane gets upon the huge mass of air. Space crafts are different, they are pushed up and not lifted.

The part of the plane which lifts the plane is the AEROFOIL shaped wing. The cross-section view of the wing is shown below. The path of air flowing above and below the aerofoil is marked.

Jet engines produce thrust and propel  them froward at high speeds. This high speed is required to create the necessary LIFT. Please look at the above figure. Because of the shape of the wing, the PATH of air flowing above the wing is disturbed. The air drops down suddenly which increases its Velocity and  reduces the Pressure of that region. The pressure above the wing now becomes lesser than the pressure BELOW the wing. This difference in pressure LIFTS the wing and thus the aeroplane.

An easier way to understand the  Principle is here. You would have seen a water hose. If you squeeze the tip of the hose, the speed of the water gets increased but the pressure of force exerted by the water decreases. Same thing happens here but slightly in a different way.

If you observe keenly, the aerofoil shape looks like an half cut NOZZLE. A nozzle effect is produced in the wing which LIFTS the wing by reducing the Pressure above the wing. The more is the speed of flow of air, the more is the drop in pressure. This is why jet engines have to produce high thrust for Lifting its aircraft.
