The Mysterious Number 1.618

         This number 1.618 is called PHI. Please don't confuse it with Pi (3.14). This number has been named PHI. You are going to know something which is going to BLOW your mind. This number is also called the DIVINE ratio or the GOLDEN ratio. It has something to do with everyone of us, all the living organisms and also the UNIVERSE. Hard to believe right?


            Pi 1.618 is called the BUILDING BLOCK of the whole UNIVERSE. It is so called because you will find  this PROPORTION everywhere. Let me start with the FIBONACCI Series.

        Fibonacci Series starts by adding 0 (Nothing) and 1 ( Unity) and the series goes on by adding the successive numbers. The symbol PHI is also the combination of 1 and 0.
                             0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233. 377,610, 987..
               
          When you divide any two adjacent number of this series you will get 1.618 . Let us check it.
(987/610) = (610/377) = (377/233) = 1.618037
The list about this Mind Blowing number follows :

• The number of Female bees in a HONEYCOMB  is always more than the number of Male bees and their ratio equals 1.618

• The Arrangement of LEAVES in a PLANT STALK bears this ratio 1.618

• If you examine a SEA SHELL , you will find the ratio between the diameter of each successive SPIRAL is 1.618

• The Eyes, Fins and Tail of a Dolphin all lies at golden lenghts of its body.

• The position of beautiful markings on a Butterfly are at this proportion.

• Parts of the INSECTS when segmented bears the ratio of 1.618

             Well you can't practically measure the ratio of the above given things easily. But here is an amazing way to confirm it.

      Its our turn now. THE HUMAN BODY. 

•  Measure the distance from the tip of your HEAD to the floor and divide this with the distance from your NAVEL ( Belly button) to the bottom of the floor. Your calculator will show 1.618

•  Measure the distance from your SHOULDERS to your fingertips and divide it with the distance from your ELBOW to the fingertips. The answer will remain the same. 

•  The length from your HIP to floor divided by the length from your KNEE to floor is equal to 1.618

• Even your Finger joints, toes and SPINAL CORD bear this ratio.

                Now I hope you got the reason why this number is called the BUILDING BLOCK of the UNIVERSE.

              Next secret about this NUMBER is something which even a small kid is familiar with. An art which anyone can draw exactly without using an eraser. It is a FIVE POINT STAR. Yes, this is the first art taught to children. This simple art is called  a PENTAGRAM in SYMBOLOGY.

• In a Pentagram all the lines cut each other exactly by this raito. Draw a Pentagram and measure the length of a full stroke and divide it with the length at which the other line cuts it.. Hmm 1.618

                   This Symbol stands for BEAUTY and PERFECTION always associated with the Goddess and the Sacred Feminine.

          There are many more to go friends. This Proportion doesn't belongs to Nature alone. It is also found in ARCHITECTURE. According to ARCHITECTS this proportion gives good BALANCE to the structure.

• THE TAJ MAHAL , The PYRAMIDS, The PARTHENON and many other architectures were designed with this GOLDEN Ratio 1.618.

• Even modern constructions like the United Nations building in New York and the worlds tallest FREE STANDING Structure are constructed using this GOLDEN RATIO.

This Ratio helps us even in Music 

• The golden proportion is used for the correct placement of the F Holes in a VIOLIN
