Pollution is the EVER-HOT topic of this Century.
People living in Urban area's are directly exposed to all kinds of this
Pollution. Many measures are being taken to reduce pollution. But, something
has been formulated for the first time to ABSORB
POLLUTION. This new weapon to
fight pollution is called ECOPAINT.
This paint doesn't absorb the
Pollutants easily. A mini Chemical factory is in operation inside this
Paint. Ecopaint absorbs NOx (NITROUS OXIDES) from Vehicles which
causes Respiratory problems and SMOG. 0.3
mm layer of this paint would
be enough to last for 5 years in a heavily polluted city.
In 2002, 7,000 square
metres of Road surface were covered with Catalytic cement in Milan, Italy. This
paint was found to be effective and residents reported that they felt easier to
Breathe and concentrations of Nitrous Oxides at street level were cut by up to 60%
Here is how these Paints absorb
pollution. The Paints BASE is made of a Silicon based polymer which is embedded
with Spherical NANO-particles
of Titanium dioxide and Calcium carbonate. The base is Porous which allows
the Nitrogen Oxides to diffuse through it and stick to the Titanium dioxide
particles.
These nano particles absorb Ultraviolet
radiation from Sunlight and use this energy to convert Nitrous oxides to Nitric
acid. This acid is either washed away in rain, or neutralised by the alkaline
Calcium carbonate particles producing Carbon dioxide, water and Calcium
nitrate.
As the
nano particles are very small, the paint is clear and so doesn't affect the
appearance and beauty of the Paint.
